Jochebed – Moses mother – sacrificed her own (selfish) desires to save her son

  • faithful – she knew that God had a plan for His people
    • Heb 11:23 By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
    • Ex 2:2 says he was a fine, goodly, beautiful child.
    • Something about the child allowed the faith of Jochebed to be activated. At this point, she believes God is in control. It works both ways – God needs to activate your faith then you need to recognize that you need to trust God.
  • Take action – she does all that is in her own abilities to protect the child.
    • We need to recognize that God expects us to be active in our faith
    • James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
    • James 2:21-22 Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.
  • Wisdom – she was able to discern when she could no longer do things herself
    • The Bible consistently calls us to discern and to judge our own actions and others actions
    • It takes wisdom to be able to judge properly
    • Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
      • Fear of God – we need to remember who God is, what He is capable of and what He desires from us. Imagine not doing something that your boss asked you to do, would you be afraid? How about a police officer? A judge? How much more should we fear not doing what God is calling us to do. If we do not fear God, we will not gain wisdom because this only comes once we recognize the importance of doing His will.
      • Precepts – teachings. We need to know His precept, understand them. This comes from reading His word. Withour being in His word, we will never gain wisdom. Remember, the wisdom of God and the wisdom of the world are two different things. We can only get the wisdom of God through His word.
  • Give it up to God – She recognized that it was time to let God take care of it
    • Once we realize that God needs to take care of it, we need to rid ourselves of whatever it is and let God do it. Only then can he perform His miracle.
    • Jochebed built an ark for the baby, a basket, tar and pitch. She didn’t just say, OK, I’m done. She prepared the situation for the best possible scenario to allow God to work.
    • When we are ready to give it up to God, we need to prepare the soil for him to work
  • Keep watch and wait – She made sure that her daughter watched what happened and she waited to find out what God did with the basket.
    • We need to wait upon the Lord
    • Psalm 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
    • Psalm 33:20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.
    • Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
  • God provides – the princess gives Jochebed her son back to raise until he is older
    • Not only did God spare the child, but He spared him and gave him back to her.
    • When we follow the plan that this Godly mother did, we will find ourselves being bless above and beyond our hopes and expectations.
