Sometimes we do not feel we are the great Christian we need to be. We compare ourselves with Billy Graham, Mother Theresa, the apostle Paul and other great spiritual leaders of history. We might say, “Now that person will be greatly rewarded in heaven.” They are great people of God and they probably will have a great reward in heaven - for their obedience to God’s calling, not what they did.

We may feel that unless we serve in Africa, pastor a church, or lead a revival, we will never be one of the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. However, God views things differently than we do. All of these great spiritual leaders merely responded to God’s call. Have you been called to Africa? Have you been called to pastor a church? Have you been called to lead a revival? Different people have different callings. Although some callings may not seem as glamorous, God calls you for a reason. We can only put forth our greatest effort in the task that God has assigned us. It may be that God has called you to just lead one person to Christ. He may want you to devote your life to teaching, leading and guiding this one person.

There is a story of a man who fought in a war and was injured so that his arms, legs and tongue wouldn’t function. He lost his eyesight and hearing as well. The one thing this man was able to do was form a toothless smile. Every time someone walked in the room, he felt the vibrations coming nearer. He longed for them to see Christ living in Him…so he smiled. This man served Christ with his smile! He wasn’t famous in our eyes, but he was great in God’s eyes.

God is not interested in how many people you want to reach for Christ or how many missions you went on. God is only concerned with how you’ve responded to His call on your life. So, I believe we will see Paul and Mother Theresa being handed their great reward - with the man who could only smile right by their side.
