How accurate are weather forecasts 2 months out? ›

The Short Answer: A seven-day forecast can accurately predict the weather about 80 percent of the time and a five-day forecast can accurately predict the weather approximately 90 percent of the time. However, a 10-day—or longer—forecast is only right about half the time.

Both the Farmers' Almanac and the Old Farmer's Almanac — two separate publications — claim to be 80% accurate with their forecasts.

Models lean toward dry conditions from the southwest into the plains with equal chances across the northern plains and Great Lakes areas. An active Atlantic hurricane season could impact mainly eastern portions of the region. Climatologically, the (late) fall months lean dry across many parts of Central Region.

The accuracy of weather predictions tends to decrease as the forecast period extends. The success rate for one-day forecasts is about 96-98%. It drops to about 90% for three-day forecasts. The more days in advance the forecast, the more likely it is that the weather will change.
